Throughout mankind’s history, obtaining high calorie and nutritious food has been a problem until only very recently. We are in an age where the opposite problem is true: too many calories and body fat. Dieting and exercise are the main means to combat the problem. While exercise can be applied broadly, trying a new diet is a delicate process of balancing and testing.
Dieting is defined as the active management in intake of food. The active dieter counts calories, and then substitutes or outright eliminates certain kinds of food items from every day diet. While this can help reduce weight, some people find that a side effect is unfortunately constipation.
One problem is that in the act of reducing food intake, the intake of essential fiber is also inadvertently reduced. This happens easily whenever we make changes to our routines. More and more people are getting into the idea of home-made juice from fruits and vegetables in order to easily consume their five a day in one go, in a glass of delicious juice. The problem is how to choose a juicer, to get the right one for your needs.
The first thing to do is decide what kind of juice you intend to make; only citrus juices, only the juice of soft fruits, a mix of fruits and vegetables, juice involving wheatgrass or other herbs, or all of the above. There are different types of juicer: citrus juicers, centrifugal or masticating juicers, then into sub-categories of either pulp-ejecting or non-pulp-ejecting, which means the pulp is either separated into a different container, or is left in the juicer and needs emptying from time to time.
1. Citrus Juicers do just that - juice citrus fruits: they will deal with all kinds of citrus fruit; limes, lemons, mandarins, oranges and grapefruit etc but not with any other kind of fruit. This process involves the fruit being cut into halves, and a half fruit pressed onto a ‘reamer cone’ which revolves and extracts the juice. There are also manual juicers, where the reamer is static and the user must twist the fruit manually.
2. Centrifugal Juicers can juice both vegetables and fruit, by spinning them at high speeds against shredder discs. The pulp ejecting type will send pulp into one container and juice out through the spout or into another container, while the non-pulp ejecting type filters the juice out through the spout, but leaves the pulp inside the container; needing to be emptied.
3. Masticating Juicers do exactly that; masticate (chew) foods between two grinders; distracting juices rich in fiber. A masticating juicer can deal with tougher foods to produce thicker results, as in nut butter, baby foods etc. Unlike other juicer types; these versatile juicers can deal with all varieties of leafy and fibrous vegetable, any fruits, tough grasses and nuts, even some grains and cereals.
Most juicers can cope with citrus fruits, but will need you to peel them first, if you don’t want the bitter peel taste. However citrus juicers remain the best for citrus juice. Juicers have evolved such that they can mostly deal with any job you choose to give them, whether or not you have to peel or prepare beforehand. Newer versions have extra wide feed chutes which will accept many fruits whole, with only larger fruits needing a little cutting first. It is not difficult to know how to find the right juicer once you know what you need it to do and what type of juice you like. Then you choose your juicer according to your budget and your needs. In 2008 there were about 24 million people with diabetes in the United States alone, and these numbers are increasing every year. Little wonder that many people are asking ‘Are there any vitamin supplements that prevent diabetes?’
Diabetes cause the blood sugar or glucose level to increase in the body. It is considered a chronic, incurable condition, but it can be controlled through insulin injections or medication.
